Fiona Hall

“CASTLES IN THE AIR OF THE CAVE DWELLERS”

Fiona Hall’s sculptures of “Castles in the air of the cave dwellers” are primarily constructed of (polyurethane) polymer based resins that have been made in the shape of a human brain, with the attachments of different types of insect dwellings. By casting the polymer resin in a mould, Fiona Hall then releases the sculpture from the cast and carves it into its desired final shape.

This particular piece is only one in a series of twelve from the “Castles in the air of the cave dwellers” that is suspended and exhibited in mid air.

Rosalie Gascoigne

“TARTAN”

Rosalie Gascoigne’s artwork “Tartan” is predominantly made up of wood from old crates that she has collected from numerous sources, such as the side of the road or even a particular rubbish tip that she visits regularly in the country. Rosalie then saws the crate into geometrical pieces such as triangles, squares and rectangle. She then reconfigures it into a way that she see’s fit or until the true beauty of the work is completed. The dimensions of this piece are 91cm x 93cm and the collected cut pieces are then glued onto a backing board.

EXPLOSIVE

The first floor represents explosive, the one thing that came to mind was an earthquake, the building represents a "thrust slip fault" during an earthquake. hope the pics give some idea of what that is.

THINKING

The basement of this building is represented by thinking. its based on a light bulb that demonstrates an idea just like in the old time cartoons.

Cerebral= top, Crimson= bottom

Cerebral
the top is in the shape of a head with three rings coming across it that represent a thought.

Crimson
the space bellow the datum represents the cross section of a heart. The stairway leeding down to the basement are the arteries. the roof of the basement is actually rising slightly from the center to represent the it is beeting.

BEFORE STUDIO SESSION ONE

A: A PIECE OF MY CREATIVE WORK
This is a model of a group of town houses that i had designed for an assignment at tafe. The reason i like this model is that it is the first thing that i had designed and seeing it as a three dimentional object gave me a scense of completion.

B: AN IMAGE OF A GREAT PIECE OF ARCHITECTURE
This is one of my favorite pieces of architecture. This was the reason that I actually travelled to Barcelona. When I actually viewed it from the street it looked like chaos and on closer inspection the detail was breathtaking. I prefer the building the way it is (unfinished) because it lets your imagination complete it the way you would like to see it.

C: AN ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH OF SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL
These eyes belong to a lady friend of mine. I love looking into them because they allow me to see the truth behind the mask portrayed. Sometimes words don’t even need to be spoken, just looking into them, I know what’s going on.
